ITO Coated Coverslips and Their Benefits

Optically transparent and highly conductive, ITO coated coverslips offer significant benefits to high-resolution microscopy. Here are some of these benefits.

The Benefits of ITO Glass Coverslips

Coverslips are primarily designed to hold specimens to be examined in place and flat, while simultaneously preventing their contamination through dust, accidental contact, etc. In addition, they serve to prevent contact between the specimen and the microscope’s objective lens and/or immersive liquids (i.e. oil or water).

In high-resolution microscopy, the thickness, overall quality, optical and anti-static properties of coverslips are naturally of crucial importance. Optically transparent, conductive and available in a wide range of thicknesses and sheet resistance options, ITO coated coverslips offer all the properties to meet these high demands.

In SEM imaging, the conductivity of ITO coverslips also removes the need to reduce unwanted charging of specimens by coating said specimens in metal (like, for example, platinum) to create conductive paths, which can be a significant problem due to obstructing the path of light and/or quenching fluorophores at the surface of cells.
